I'm late to this blog, so I'm sorry. But I had to add along with your glucose comment that benzaldehyde is naturally occurring in cherry pits. It tastes like almond extract. I'd be much more concerned about the FD&C red #40 and high-fructose corn syrup.

Thanks! I think they had a different understanding of this stuff a hundred years ago.

Plus, the homemade ones are just so much *better*.
